Hi everyone, Just to keep you up to date with events at the farm. We are now into full swing picking the apples and pears to make the cider and perry for next year. There are plenty of apples. However, there is a shortage of perry pears so we do not expect to have much, if any, draught perry available next year. All the local makers are reporting a shortage of perry pears (we had cold and damp weather during blossom time). Recently CAMRA visited the farm to present Mike with a Silver Award for our perry entered in the National Trials held earlier this year at Reading. Andrea Briers presented Mike Johnson with the award and congratulated Mike on the consistent high quality of his cider and perry. Andrea wished that she lived nearer so that she could enjoy the local cider and perry more frequently. In his reply, Mike thanked CAMRA for the work that they do to bring real cider and perry to the attention of the public. The visitors enjoyed an excellent ploughman’s lunch and watched a pressing demonstration whilst enjoying some of Mike’s cider! Andrea presenting Mike with his award. We have not made our plans for 2009. The Cider Festival dates are Friday 4th to Sunday 6th September 2009. As promised, we will give 2008 attendees an opportunity to book tickets before they go on sale to everyone else. I will announce our 2009 plans in the New Year. We are not taking bookings for the festival until we confirm the arrangements. See you in the cellar soon? Phil at Ross Cider
