Westons short-listed for Entrepreneur ChallengeWestons Cider ( www.somersetmade.co.uk/oldscrump/ciderfarms/westons.php), the Herefordshire based cider manufacturer, has been announced as a finalist in the Midlands region of Bank of Scotland Corporate £35 Million Entrepreneur Challenge. The company, which has been independently owned by the Westons Cider since 1880, will now compete with four other entrepreneurs to secure a £5 million funding package, free of interest and charges for three years. Helen Thomas, managing director of Westons Cider, must present her business case to a judging panel to get the chance to receive the funding package that could change the face of the business. The judging process will take place on Thursday 23 October and will be followed that evening by a dinner and award ceremony at Stoneleigh Abbey, where the winner will be announced. Thomas said: “I am really pleased and so excited about being one of the finalists. Winning would mean so much to the business as it will enable us to develop our plans more quickly.”
