we are using wooden barrels for our cider and are wondering how anyone else who uses them manages to keep them water ( or in this case, cider) tight. Has anyone ever used stockholm tar?

Try using a wallpaper stripper ,turn barrel bung hole down with steamer pipe in it and steam for an hour .This should make the wood swell and seal the barrel . It also stearilises it . In future do,nt let them dry out .
